Volunteers

The Gloucestershire Society is a small charity operating within the ceremonial county of Gloucestershire, acting as source of small immediate grants for those in direst need. Our funds are raised through an annual appeal and distributed via a volunteer Welfare Committee acting on referrals from a number of accredited bodies. We operate with very small overheads and distribute around 90% of our income.

We are currently seeking a volunteer to join our Welfare Committee of four, each responsible for a different region of the county. Initially this person will help to cover periods of holiday or absence, but it is hoped that we can identify someone who may be prepared to be part of our succession plan.

Candidates will ideally have some or all of the following:

  • A commitment to the work and aims of The Society
  • A willingness to be flexible both geographically and with time commitment
  • Some IT knowledge and a willingness to become familiar with systems and banking
  • A commitment to total client confidentiality

The suitable candidate will be required to attend two Trustees meetings per year and to work with the existing committee of four, spending time with each to understand their slightly differing roles.

Initially, expressions of interest should be addressed to Philippa Gray, Development Director of The Society on 07876 208725 or by email office@gloucestershiresociety.org.uk, giving brief details of experience and why you are interested. Interviews will then be conducted by the Welfare Committee.
