Ancient Gloucestershire Charity raises funds for local people in crisis

A historic Gloucestershire charity is continuing its mission to support vulnerable people across the county, raising thousands of pounds each year to provide emergency financial assistance to those in most need.

Founded 370 years ago, the Gloucestershire Society distributes small, but essential grants to local individuals and families facing hardship. The charity works through a dedicated team of volunteers covering different areas of the county and responds quickly to urgent requests for support.

Demand for help continues to rise year on year, increasing the importance of fundraising efforts from trusts and donors through the Presidents annual appeal.

This year’s event was generously hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort at Badminton House on Sunday 17th May. The day included the Society’s traditional church service and feast attended by around 100 supporters and benefactors.

Guests also enjoyed a performance of the Society’s historic song George Ridler’s Oven, sung by Jeremy Watkins.

Society President Nick Hornby said “We are enormously grateful to the Duke and Duchess for their generosity and continued support. Each year we aim to raise more so that we can respond to increasing demand and we distribute almost everything we raise. The Badminton event has helped raise awareness of our work which makes a real difference to people facing difficulties”

The Gloucestershire Society aims to continue expanding its reach as demand for emergency support grows throughout the county.
